In this video, Ruben Mesa, MD, discussed a study he presented at ASCO Annual Meeting examining the impact of transfusion burden on quality of life and functioning on patients with myelofibrosis.

Mesa, executive director of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center, highlighted the study, a post-hoc analysis of the SIMPLIFY-1 and SIMPLIFY-2 studies, which found that treating anemia had a very strong impact on patient energy and quality of life.

“This helped to answer the question that yes, by improving anemia, a difference was seen by that increase of oxygen-carrying capacity,” Mesa said.
