“We are incredibly proud and honored to be recognized as the best pediatric hospital in the nation," Steve Davis, MD, MMM, president and CEO of Cincinnati Children’s, said in a press release. “This distinction only confirms what we have always known — that we have outstanding, talented team members who are unmatched in their dedication to ensuring that all children have access to exceptional care. Our people are — and have always been — innovators, teachers, collaborators and compassionate caregivers, and they lead the way in helping kids achieve their full potential.”

U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Children’s Hospitals rankings are intended to help families of children with life-threatening or rare conditions obtain the best possible medical care.

The rankings highlight the top 50 centers in 10 pediatric specialties: cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and lung surgery, and urology.

Other centers named to the top 10 for cancer care this year are Dana-Farber/Boston Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Children’s National Hospital, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Texas Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital Colorado, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Johns Hopkins Children’s Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

U.S. News & World Report also released its 2023-2024 Honor Roll, which recognizes pediatric centers that deliver exceptionally high-quality care across multiple specialties.

Cincinnati Children’s topped the honor roll, ranking first in four of the 10 pediatric specialties assessed: cancer, diabetes and endocrinology (tie), neonatology and urology.

Other institutions in the top five of the honor roll are Boston Children’s Hospital, Texas Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Children’s National Hospital.

RTI International — a research and consulting firm based in North Carolina — collected and analyzed the data for the rankings.

The methodology reflects clinical outcomes (eg, patient survival, infection rates and complications), level and quality of hospital resources directly related to patient care (eg, staffing, technology and special services), delivery of health care (eg, offering programs that prevent infections or adhering to best practices) and expert opinion among pediatric specialists.

“Parents of sick children face many difficult challenges, including how to identify the best children’s hospital to treat their illness or condition," Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News & World Report, said in a press release. “The rankings, which are increasingly determined by objective measures of hospital quality, can help them make informed decisions.”
