Elizabeth M. Jaffee, MD, will receive this year’s AACR-Margaret Foti Award for Leadership and Extraordinary Achievements in Cancer Research.

The award — to be presented at this year’s American Association for Cancer Research Annual Meeting, scheduled for April 14-19 in Orlando — recognizes an individual whose leadership and achievements in cancer research have made a major impact in the field.

The award is named after Margaret Foti, PhD, MD (hc), CEO of AACR.

Jaffee is Dana and Albert “Cubby” Broccoli professor in oncology and deputy director of Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins University. She also is inaugural director of the Convergence Institute and associate director of the Bloomberg-Kimmel Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy at the cancer center.

Jaffee is a fellow of the AACR Academy and past president of the association.

She is recognized for her contributions to the field of cancer immunotherapy, which have furthered the understanding of the interaction between the immune system and several cancer types, including pancreatic cancer.

“Dr. Jaffee is an international authority in the field of cancer immunotherapy. Her groundbreaking research has led to invaluable breakthroughs in the treatment of deadly cancers, namely pancreatic cancer,” Foti said in a press release. “In addition, she is a visionary leader and continues to have a remarkable track record of contributions to the field that include the education and mentorship of young investigators and the promotion of important science and regulatory policy at the national level.”
