American Society for Radiation Oncology honors two Gold Medal recipients
The American Society for Radiation Oncology presented the ASTRO Gold Medal to two of its members.
Wendell R. Lutz, PhD, FASTRO, and Timothy R. Williams, MD, FASTRO, received their medals during a ceremony at this year’s ASTRO Annual Meeting, held in San Antonio.

ASTRO Gold Medals — the highest honor bestowed upon ASTRO members — are presented to individuals who have made outstanding lifetime contributions in the field of radiation oncology. The honor recognizes achievements in research, clinical care, service and teaching.
Lutz, a retired medical physicist, previously served on the faculty at Harvard Medical School, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and University of Arizona. He is recognized for his work developing a linear accelerator-based system for stereotactic radiosurgery, as well as several devices for quality assurance in radiation oncology.
Williams, medical director of South Florida Proton Therapy Institute, is former chair of the ASTRO board of directors. He also is former president of Florida Radiological Society and founding member of International Cancer Expert Corps.
