Cannabis use during cancer treatment can result in a considerable out-of-pocket cost burden, according to study results presented at ASCO Quality Care Symposium.
“This could be really underappreciated with our current tools for evaluating out-of-pocket costs and financial toxicity,” researcher Fumiko Chino, MD, radiation oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and recipient of the inaugural Patient Voice honoree in the Healio Disruptive Innovators Awards in hematology/oncology, told Healio.
Healio spoke with Chino about the findings, their potential implications and the questions that must be addressed in future research.
