Cedars-Sinai appoints surgical oncologist as department chair
Cristina R. Ferrone, MD, has been appointed chair of the department of surgery at Cedars-Sinai.
Ferrone — who serves as professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School and director of the Office of Clinical Careers for Massachusetts General Hospital — will begin her new position in January.
“Dr. Ferrone is known as a visionary leader who has excelled in all aspects of academic medicine,” Shlomo Melmed, MB, ChB, executive vice president of academic affairs and dean of the medical faculty at Cedars-Sinai, said in a press release. “She is an innovative clinician as well as an exceptional translational scientist and teacher.”

Ferrone specializes in treating patients with complex hepato-pancreatico-biliary disorders.
She has implemented novel techniques for minimally invasive surgery and also helped develop new immunotherapeutic strategies for people with cancers of the pancreas, liver and biliary system.
“I am excited to join Cedars-Sinai and to collaborate across specialties with my new colleagues," Ferrone said in the release. “Collaboration is the key to medical discoveries and innovation, improving outcomes for patients and enhancing public health.”
