MD Anderson again ranked best cancer hospital in US

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center has retained its distinction as the No. 1 cancer hospital in the country.
MD Anderson tops U.S. News & World Report’s 2022-2023 Best Hospitals rankings for cancer care.
“We are proud to be ranked as the nation’s leader in cancer care,” Peter WT Pisters, MD, president of MD Anderson, said in a press release. “This ongoing recognition is thanks to the incredible MD Anderson community, including our faculty, employees, trainees, students, donors and advocates, who advance our science and our mission and who serve our patients by enabling us to provide the best care possible.”
This is the eighth straight year — and the 18th time in 21 years — that MD Anderson has ranked first. The institution has finished first or second in cancer care every year since the publication began issuing its rankings in 1990.
“This ranking is a reminder of our responsibilities to those we serve, and it drives our unwavering commitment to our mission to end cancer,” Pisters said. “With the launch of our institutional strategy, we have embarked upon MD Anderson’s most transformative era yet. Our aspirations are bold, and I am confident our strategic decisions will guide us in maximizing our impact on humanity.”
Other hospitals ranked in the top 10 for cancer care are Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center; Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota; Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center; UCLA Medical Center; Cleveland Clinic; City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center; Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania — Penn Presbyterian; Northwestern Memorial Hospital; and Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
Mayo Clinic ranked first in this year’s Honor Roll, which highlights 20 hospitals that deliver exceptional treatment across multiple areas of care. This is the seventh straight year Mayo Clinic topped the Honor Roll.

Other institutions in this year’s Honor Roll top 10 are Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, NYU Langone Hospitals, Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins Hospital, UCLA Medical Center, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital — Columbia and Cornell, Massachusetts General Hospital, Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Stanford Health Care — Stanford Hospital.
The 33rd annual U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings are intended to help patients with rare or life-threatening conditions make informed decisions about where to receive care.
The 2022-2023 rankings compared more than 4,500 hospitals across the country in 15 medical specialties: cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; diabetes and endocrinology; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery; geriatrics; neurology and neurosurgery; obstetrics and gynecology; ophthalmology; orthopedics; psychiatry; pulmonology and lung surgery; rehabilitation; rheumatology; and urology.
Only 164 hospitals were nationally ranked in at least one specialty.
“For patients considering their options for where to get care, the Best Hospitals rankings are designed to help them and their medical professionals identify hospitals that excel in the kind of care they may need,” Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News, said in a press release.
The new rankings also provide patients who require surgery for prostate cancer or gynecologic cancer with previously unavailable information to help them make critical health care decisions, Harder said.
The rankings are based primarily on objective measures, such as survival rates, patient experience, level of nursing care, and the success hospitals have helping patients return home.
