‘More work to do’ in oncology to collect useful data about symptoms, functional status

The randomized PROStep trial assessed whether remote patient-reported symptoms and passive activity monitoring could improve patient-clinician communication about symptoms and functional status of patients with cancer.

Christopher Manz, MD, MSHP, medical oncologist at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, presented results at ASCO Annual Meeting.

In this video, Manz provides an overview of the study rationale, summarizes the findings and highlights the unanswered questions that future research must address.

“We have more work to do to understand how we can collect data from patients — particularly when they are outside the clinic — about symptoms and functional status, and how we can present these data to clinicians in a way that is useful for them and ultimately impacts the care patients receive,” Manz told Healio.
