American Cancer Society names chief scientific officer

William L. Dahut, MD, has been named chief scientific officer of American Cancer Society.
His appointment will take effect May 16.
Dahut will join American Cancer Society from NCI, where he serves as scientific director for clinical research at Center for Cancer Research, head of the prostate cancer clinical research section, and NCI clinical director.
He also is professor of medicine at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.
Dahut has pioneered multiple prostate cancer treatment regimens. He also is known for his expertise in immunotherapy and clinical trials.
“Dr. Dahut is internationally recognized as an exceptional physician-scientist, cancer researcher and leader,” Karen E. Knudsen, MBA, PhD, the cancer society’s CEO, said in a press release. “Under his leadership, [society]-supported discovery science will be poised to further accelerate new advances in cancer prevention, detection, management and cure."
