VIDEO: Gamified learning aids professional development of hematology/oncology pharmacists
BOSTON – In a video interview, Loriel J. Solodokin, PharmD, BCOP, discussed how gamified learning through the implementation of educational escape rooms can benefit the education and professional development of hematology/oncology pharmacists.
Solodokin, assistant professor of pharmacy practice at MCPHS University School of Pharmacy-Boston and pharmacy specialist-hematology/oncology at Dana Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham and Women's Hospital, presented on this innovative and interactive educational modality at Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association Annual Meeting.
Solodokin focused on “transferable skills” — such as critical-thinking, collaboration, communication, problem-solving techniques and teamwork — that pharmacists could apply to their educational settings and their clinical programs, “regardless of their practice setting.”
“In essence, this was very different than your standard didactic session, but I think it’s a real call for how we address learning in a professional setting,” she said.
