Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed every October, is an international campaign designed to increase awareness of the disease and raise money to fund research for prevention, earlier detection and more effective treatment.
In conjunction with this observance, Healio presents 10 research updates in breast cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.
- Nut consumption appeared associated with improved survival among long-term breast cancer survivors. Read more.
- Establishing biennial mammography screening beginning at age 40 years could reduce breast cancer-associated mortality by 57% among Black women. Read more.
- The addition of pembrolizumab (Keytruda, Merck) to first-line chemotherapy led to statistically significant improvement in PFS and OS among patients with PD-L1-positive metastatic triple-negative breast cancer. Read more.
- Black and Hispanic women had a higher risk than white women for ED visits within 90 days after breast cancer surgery. Read more.
- Use of statin therapy within the first year after breast cancer diagnosis appeared associated with a survival benefit among women with stage I to stage III triple-negative disease. Read more.
