Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation, announced this year’s Women Who Conquer Cancer Mentorship Award recipients.

They are Jennifer A. Ligibel, MD, FASCO, and Lorna Awo Renner, MBChB, MPH, FRCPCH, FGCPS.

The awards recognize female leaders in oncology who are role models and mentors to women training to be cancer clinicians, educators or researchers.

Jennifer A. Ligibel

Ligibel is associate professor at Harvard Medical School and director of Leonard P. Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies and Healthy Living. She also is director of Center for Faculty Well-Being at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Her research focuses on the impact of lifestyle interventions — such as physical activity and weight-loss interventions — on breast cancer outcomes.

Ligibel has served as a project leader in NCI’s Transdisciplinary Research on Energetics and Cancer Centers (TREC) Initiative. She also served on an advisory board for an annual TREC workshop for trainees and early-career scientists who are interested in energy balance and cancer.

Lorna Awo Renner, MBChB, MPH, FRCPCH, FGCPS
Lorna Awo Renner

Renner is lecturer at University of Ghana Medical School and head of the pediatric oncology unit at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

She began a pediatric oncology fellowship program under the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. She mentors several young women with the goal of fighting disparities for women in oncology, particularly in Ghana.

Ligibel and Renner will be recognized during this year’s virtual ASCO Annual Meeting.

The awards are supported by Hologic Inc, Eisai Inc. and GlaxoSmithKline Oncology.
