Friends of Cancer Research named Edward S. Kim, MD, MBA, FACP, FASCO, one of the top cancer leaders in the nation.
Kim — a HemOnc Today Editorial Board member — is physician-in-chief with City of Hope Orange County and vice physician-in-chief for City of Hope National Medical Center. He is recognized for his expertise in lung cancer.
Friends of Cancer Research, a national organization dedicated to advancing science and policies that accelerate patient access to potentially lifesaving treatment, identified Kim as one of the 25 scientific, policy and advocacy leaders who have been instrumental in making significant advancements for patients.
“Dr. Kim is an incredible scientific partner and steadfast advocate for patients in countless ways,” Ellen V. Sigal, PhD, chair and founder of Friends of Cancer Research, said in a press release. “His leadership to make clinical trials more representative and accessible has truly helped change the field.”
Kim collaborated with ASCO and Friends of Cancer Research to develop recommendations to change eligibility requirements for cancer clinical trials. Kim’s efforts have helped reduce barriers to trials and ensured they are more inclusive and representative of all populations.
Kim also is playing a key role in the development of a cancer center campus and network of several clinical sites in Orange County.
“I am humbled to receive this recognition from Friends of Cancer Research, which has spent decades at the forefront of cancer research and policy and fosters collaboration among the advocacy community, research institutions, the health care industry and more,” Kim said in the release. “It’s an honor to partner with [Friends of Cancer Research] and, at the same time, help bring City of Hope’s pioneering research and lifesaving treatments to more people through our planned cancer campus of the future and network of advanced cancer care in Orange County.”
