Oncology nurses recognized for ‘making a difference’

Oncology Nursing Society recognized three individuals with its Pearl Moore “Making a Difference” Awards.

The awards, named after the society’s first executive director and CEO, are presented to people or teams whose extra efforts impact the lives of patients with cancer and their families.

This year’s recipients are:

Laiken Matlock, BSN, RN II, a registered nurse at Covenant Medical Center in Texas. Matlock received the Frontline Care Award, which recognizes a frontline oncology nurse who demonstrates exceptional patient care through the use of evidence-based practice.

Eleni Kalandranis, MSN, RN, OCN, CMSRN, nurse leader at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Kalandranis received the Emerging Leader Award, which recognizes an emerging oncology nurse leader who made a difference in the oncology nursing profession at the local or regional level.

The Swab Team at David H. Koch Cancer Center, which received the Team Achievement Award. This honor recognizes small teams for outstanding contributions to improving patient care within their workplace and community.
