Medical University of South Carolina appoints chief of hematology, oncology

Craig Lockhart, MD, has been appointed chief of the division of hematology and oncology at Medical University of South Carolina.

Lockhart also will serve as associate director for clinical science at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center.

The appointments will take effect April 1.

Lockhart currently serves as chief of the division of oncology, as well as associate director for regional and strategic research affiliations, at University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. He previously held positions at Washington University in St. Louis and its Siteman Cancer Center, as well as Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.

Lockhart’s research interest is gastrointestinal cancers, including phase 1/phase 2 clinical trials of novel therapeutics.

“We are excited to have Dr. Lockhart join our team,” Raymond N. DuBois, MD, PhD, dean of Medical University of South Carolina’s college of medicine and director of MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, said in a press release. “I believe that he brings the skills to build upon our existing strengths and significantly enhance and elevate our hematology and oncology division, along with building clinical trials efforts at Hollings Cancer Center.”
