Lectureship to explore burnout through lens of art, science
The Oncology Nursing Foundation selected Tara Rynders, RN-BC, MFA, BSN, BA, as this year’s Mara Mogensen Flaherty memorial lecturer.
She will present the lecture via webinar on April 20 as part of this year’s Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Congress.

Rynders is founder and artistic director of The Clinic, an arts and play-based company that provides workshops, performances and research around burnout and secondary traumatic stress.
Rynders — a nurse, dancer and creative caregiver — will use multimedia to explore the art and science of caring for oneself and others. She will explain how the arts can support nurses and patients through burnout, grief and joy.
“I am so grateful and honored to present this lecture to oncology nurses and support the incredible work that they do every day,” Rynders said in a press release. “This presentation is an immersive invitation to care for oneself through truth-telling, self-compassion, creative expression and, ultimately, the freedom to celebrate pleasure.”
A question-and-answer session will follow the lecture.
The Mara Mogensen Flaherty Memorial Lectureship focuses on topics related to the psychosocial aspects of cancer diagnosis, treatment and care. It is presented annually by someone involved in the fields of psychosocial oncology, cancer care, research or education.
Anyone who wishes to view the lecture can register for the ONS Congress at www.ons.org/store/congress-registration.
