Krista Nelson, MSW, LCSW, OSW-C, FAOSW, has been named president of Association of Community Cancer Centers.
Nelson — who has served on the association’s executive committee and board of trustees for 5 years — is program manager of compassion and senior social worker at Providence Cancer Institute at Providence Health and Services in Oregon.
The theme for her 1-year term as president will be “Real-world lessons from COVID-19: Driving oncology care forward.”
She will focus on three priority areas: the role of health equity and development of practice-based solutions to improve outcomes and reduce barriers; demonstrating the need for high-impact supportive care and psychosocial services; and strengthening a culture that supports resilience and professional well-being for members of the cancer care team.
“Oncology professionals have shown remarkable resilience and innovation in the face of extraordinary challenges,” Nelson said in a press release. “Without a doubt, our community will use the lessons we’ve learned this past year to develop a blueprint for moving forward.”
She also intends to prioritize the association’s work on equity, diversity and inclusion within its educational projects.
Nelson previously served as president of Association of Oncology Social Work’s board of directors. She also is past invited director of American Psychosocial Oncology Society.
