Oncologist elected to fellowship in Royal College of Physicians of London

Edith P. Mitchell, MD, FACP, FCPP, FRCP, has been recognized as a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London.

Fellowship recognizes physicians’ achievement and skill, as well as their ongoing contributions to the profession.

Mitchell is associate director for diversity affairs at Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center — Jefferson Health. She also is director of Center to Eliminate Cancer Disparities, as well as clinical professor of medicine and medical oncology.

Her research focuses on breast and gastrointestinal cancers, with emphasis on new drug evaluation, development of new therapeutic regimens, chemoradiation strategies for combined-modality therapy, patient selection criteria and supportive care.

A focus throughout her career has been helping people in medically underserved areas. She has conducted research on participation of racial minorities in clinical trials and barriers to trial accrual, such as ethnic and socioeconomic factors.

Mitchell, a retired U.S. Air Force brigadier general, is a member of the President’s Cancer Panel.
