American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy to present awards

American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy will present three awards during this year’s TCT Meetings Digital Experience.
Hal E. Broxmeyer, PhD, will receive the ASTCT Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to a scientist or physician who has made continuing contributions to the bone marrow transplantation and cellular therapy fields through the advancement of knowledge via basic or clinical science.
Broxmeyer is distinguished professor of microbiology and immunology and co-leader of the program on hematopoiesis and hematologic malignancies at Indiana University Simon Cancer Center at Indiana University School of Medicine.
Anthony S. Fauci, MD, director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, will receive the ASTCT Public Service Award. The award is presented to an individual outside society membership who advanced the interests of the bone marrow transplantation and cellular therapy field or who gave special service to patients the association serves.
Elizabeth J. Shpall, MD, will present the E. Donnall Thomas Lecture, which recognizes a physician or scientist who contributed meritoriously to the advancement of knowledge in blood and marrow transplantation.
Shpall is director of the cell therapy laboratory and director of the cord blood bank at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, as well as deputy chair of the institution’s department of stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy.
