Association appoints director of cancer care delivery, health policy
Kristin Ferguson, DNP, RN, OCN, has been appointed senior director of cancer care delivery and health policy for Association of Community Cancer Centers.
Ferguson will oversee efforts to improve cancer care delivery across rural, urban and under-resourced settings. She also will help members of the oncology workforce by trying to reshape reimbursement to meet the needs of providers and patients.
“Dr. Ferguson’s clinical background, combined with her experience as a patient advocate in health policy, make her a uniquely qualified addition to the [Association of Community Cancer Centers] team as we work to communicate with policymakers on our members’ behalf and then bring that information back to our members,” Randall A. Oyer, MD, association president and medical director of the oncology program at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, said in a press release.
Ferguson most recently served as clinical operations manager for Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. She also has held a variety of other positions, including clinical nurse coordinator for oncology, and assistant nursing director and patient care manager for surgical oncology.
“We are so fortunate to be in cancer care at this particular point in time. It is exploding with advancements and becoming more specialized than ever,” Ferguson said in the release. “With that comes a need for greater education and advocacy for both the patient and the cancer team, and an increased need for a better understanding of how our health care system can be improved to lead to better outcomes for those diagnosed with cancer.”
