David R. Green, MSA, has been installed as president of AABB for the 2020-2021 term.

Green has served as president and CEO of Vitalant — a nonprofit community blood service provider — since 2016.

He has been a member of AABB, formerly known as American Association of Blood Banks, for nearly 30 years.

“It is truly an honor to continue to serve the transfusion medicine and biotherapies community now as president of this association,” Green said in a press release. “I am particularly impressed at how quickly our community has been able to adapt and overcome so many of the challenges posed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and look forward to working with AABB members as we continue to ensure the safety of donors and patients worldwide during these demanding times.”

Green previously served as president and CEO of Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. He also spent 9 years with American Red Cross.

He is chair for Alliance of Blood Operators, a network of more than 90 blood operators from North America, Australia and Europe. He is past president of America’s Blood Centers and past chair for Blood Centers of America.

AABB is a not-for-profit association that represents institutions and individuals involved in transfusion medicine and cellular therapies. The association strives to improve health through development and delivery of standards, accreditation and educational programs intended to improve the care and safety of patients and donors.

Association members also elected Dana Devine, PhD, as president-elect; Brian Gannon, MBA, as vice president; and Aaron Tobian, MD, PhD, as secretary.

Five individuals were elected as at-large directors: Delisa English, MBA; Magali Fontaine, MD, PhD; Phil Accooe, MLS(ASCP)SBB, CLS; Celina Montemayor-Garcia, MD, PhD; and Meghan Delaney, DO, MPH.
