Two physicians who specialize in the treatment of patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms have been honored as part of the 2020 MPN Heroes Recognition Program, sponsored by Incyte and CURE Media Group.
MPN Heroes are recognized for their commitment to make a difference in the lives of people living with myeloproliferative neoplasms.
This year’s honorees include Rami S. Komrokji, MD, vice chair of the malignant hematology department and lead clinical investigator for the myelodysplastic syndrome program at Moffitt Cancer Center, and David S. Snyder, MD, associate director in the department of hematology and hematopoietic cell transplantation at City of Hope.
Komrokji focuses on outcomes research in hematologic malignancies, with an emphasis on myeloid neoplasms.
Recognition program representatives acknowledged Komrokji’s efforts to help veterans with myeloproliferative neoplasms get access to appropriate care. He helped reactivate the American VA Hematology/Oncology Association, serving at various times as president and vice president.
Snyder is recognized for his expertise in stem cell transplantation for management of myeloproliferative neoplasms, chronic myeloid leukemia and other blood disorders.
He has contributed to research and clinical trials that advanced the science of myeloproliferative neoplasms, and has worked to emphasize education as a cornerstone of patient empowerment.
Five patient advocates and a caregiver also received 2020 MPN Heroes recognition.
