Radiation-based approaches may offer an alternative to stem cell transplant for some patients with relapsed or refractory classical Hodgkin lymphoma, according to an analysis presented at ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition.

In the study, 81% of patients with localized relapse or refractory disease achieved complete response after this non-transplant approach and the 5-year PFS was 68%, according to the abstract.

“There are some patients that have had very long-term remission and likely cures with this non-transplant approach. It’s an area of great interest in Hodgkin lymphoma when you deal with young patients to sort of reduce the toxicities,” Jakub Svoboda, MD, of Penn Medicine, told Healio in a video interview.
