ORLANDO — In this video at the ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition, Sriram M. Krishnaswamy, PhD, of the University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, discusses efforts to better understand molecular mechanisms, biochemistry and structural biology of blood coagulation.

Over the last 30 years, Krishnaswamy’s lab has worked to uncover novel molecular details that provide information on the function and regulation of coagulation enzymes.

“The focus on my work really is to use this kind of strategy to illuminate new pathways by which coagulation may be modulated with unexpected approaches, with potentially far better beneficial consequences than is practiced in the current day,” Krishnaswamy said.

Krishnaswamy was one of two recipients of the Ernest Beutler Lecture and Prize. The other recipient was Jeffrey I. Weitz, MD, FRCPC. Click here to watch his video on the role of factor XI inhibitors in anticoagulant therapy.

Disclosure: Krishnaswamy reports receiving research funding from Bayer Healthcare, Janssen and Portola, being a consultant for Baxalta and Novo Nordisk, and being a member of the board of directors/advisory committee for Janssen.
