Cleveland Clinic appointed Jame Abraham, MD, FACP, as the new chair of its hematology/medical oncology department.
Abraham — who succeeds hematologist Matt Kalaycio, MD, in this role — will be responsible for recruiting and developing staff. He also will guide the department’s focus on patient access and its multidisciplinary approach to care.
“Successfully leading our hematology/medical oncology department requires a leader who excels at empathy, fosters a culture of teamwork, demonstrates emotional intelligence and believes in the vision of our institute,” Brian J. Bolwell, MD, chairman of Cleveland Clinic’s Taussig Cancer Institute, said in a press release. “Dr. Abraham represents these qualities and has exhibited a passion for department and caregiver development, and elevating our national reputation.”
Abraham most recently served as director of the breast oncology program at Taussig Cancer institute, as well as co-director of the Cleveland Clinic comprehensive breast cancer program. He also is professor of medicine at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine.
“I look forward to building upon Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute’s position as a leader in hematology and medical oncology, delivering outstanding, compassionate patient care and innovative research,” Abraham said in the release. “I am honored to serve patients who choose Cleveland Clinic for advanced cancer treatment and to support the department’s committed and passionate caregivers.”
