City of Hope appoints hematologists to new roles

Two hematologists at City of Hope have been appointed to new positions.
Larry Kwak, MD, PhD, has been named deputy director of City of Hope’s Hematologic Malignancies and Stem Cell Transplantation Institute.
He will oversee recruitment, faculty development, and clinical and laboratory research in partnership with Stephen J. Forman, MD, the institute’s director and chair of hematology and hematopoietic cell transplantation at City of Hope.
“I plan to leverage my experience as deputy director of the comprehensive cancer center to work with Dr. Forman to establish high-performing teams excelling at patient care and research,” Kwak said in a press release. “I’m excited to devote my efforts to investing in our faculty talent and leveraging our tremendous resources to enable the continued realization of our vision of being a world-class blood cancer clinical and research institute.”
Kwak will continue to serve as director of Toni Stephenson Lymphoma Center, vice president and deputy director of the comprehensive cancer center, and as Dr. Michael Friedman professor in translational medicine.
Tanya Siddiqi, MD, associate clinical professor in the department of hematology and hematopoietic cell transplantation, has been appointed director of the chronic lymphocytic leukemia program within Toni Stephenson Lymphoma Center.
Siddiqi will oversee research efforts as well as the growth of a CLL tissue bank that she developed. She also will investigate novel treatments for CLL — including the potential role of chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy — and continue to lead City of Hope’s phase 1, phase 2 and phase 3 CLL trials.
Siddiqi will continue to serve as supervising physician at City of Hope’s anticoagulation clinic.
