Jordan M. Winter, MD, has been appointed chief of the division of surgical oncology at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

Winter also will serve as director of surgical services at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center.

Winter is recognized for his expertise in the surgical management of pancreatic cancer. He also treats other gastrointestinal malignancies and abdominal tumors.

“His achievements reflect a deep commitment to aid patients and families facing the most challenging cancers while helping colleagues and clinicians in training achieve their professional goals,” Ted Teknos, MD, president of UH Seidman Cancer Center, said in a press release.

Winter joins University Hospitals from Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, where he served as codirector of Jefferson Pancreas, Biliary and Related Cancer Center, codirector of the gastrointestinal multidisciplinary clinical trials group at Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center and codirector of the multidisciplinary pancreas cancer clinic.

“Dr. Winter is an excellent surgeon who also knows that the treatment of cancer takes more than technical expertise,” Joseph Sabik, MD, chairman of the department of surgery at University Hospitals, said in the release. “He is a thoughtful and caring physician who will exemplify UH’s vision of blending science and compassion in his approach to health care.”

Winter succeeds Julian Kim, MD, who accepted a position at Palmetto Health-University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
