The Association of Community Cancer Centers will recognize three individuals for significant achievements in oncology care.

The awards will be presented during the association’s National Oncology Conference, scheduled for Oct. 17-19 in Phoenix.

Otis W. Brawley, MD, MACP, will receive the Annual Achievement Award, which recognizes individuals or organizations who have reflected the values of community cancer care through their outstanding contributions.

Brawley is chief medical and scientific officer of American Cancer Society, as well as its executive vice president for research. He leads the society’s work in cancer prevention, early detection and quality treatment.

Patricia A. Ganz, MD, will receive the Clinical Research Award, which recognizes individuals whose research has significant and positively impacted oncology patients, their families or the community.

Ganz — a medical oncology at UCLA School of Medicine — is recognized as a pioneer in the assessment of quality of life for individuals with cancer and cancer survivors. She also is active in clinical trials through the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project. Much of her research and clinical efforts focus on breast cancer prevention.
