The Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses presented several awards at its annual conference, held Sept. 13-15 in Savannah, Georgia.

Genevieve Foley, MSN, RN, received the Dr. Casey Hooke Distinguished Service Award, presented to an association member who has demonstrated excellence in service to and leadership of the association.

Foley has served as nursing leader or director of nursing and chief nursing officer at two pediatric oncology institutions. She is past president of Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON).

Marilyn J. Hockenberry, PhD, RN, PPCNP-BC, FAAN, received the Dr. Nancy E. Kline Mentoring Award, which recognizes an association member for outstanding efforts to support, encourage and promote the professional development of others.

Hockenberry is professor of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine and Bessie Baker professor emeritus at Duke University School of Nursing.

Kaye Schmidt, MA, RN, NEA-BC, CPHON, received the Dr. Patricia Greene Leadership Award, which recognizes an association member who demonstrated excellence in service to and leadership of the organization in a given year.

Schmidt — president of APHON’s Dallas-Fort Worth chapter — recently completed her term as editor of APHON Counts, the association’s quarterly newsletter. She has served at the committee member level and also served as leader of an APHON strategic committee.

The association also presented several other membership awards during the conference.

Jennifer Spinardi , RN, received the APHON Counts My Most Memorable Case Award; Mary Langevin, APRN-CNP CPON, and Suzanne Scott, RN, CPNP-PC, received the APHON Counts Writing Award; Lindsay A. Jibb, PhD, RN, received the Dianne Fochtman New Author Award; Catherine M. Laing, PhD, RN, received the APHON Writing Award; Caroline Anderson, BSN, RN, CPON, received the Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Instructor of the Year Award; Marsha Smith, BSN, RN-BC, CCM, CHPPN, received the Jean Fergusson Excellence in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nursing Education Award; Katherine Patterson Kelly, PhD, RN, PCNS-BC, CPON, received the Distinguished Researcher Award; Janice Withycombe, PhD, RN, MN, CCRP, received the APHON Early Career Researcher Award; and Deborah A. Lafond, DNP, PPCNP-BC, CHPPN, CPON, received the Dr. Cheryl C. Rodgers Excellence in Evidence Based Practice Award.
