City of Hope appoints chief operating officer

Jeff A. Walker has been appointed chief operating officer at City of Hope.
Walker — whose appointment will take effect Aug. 1 — will lead patient care, nursing, ancillary and supportive service operations for City of Hope’s main campus in Duarte, Calif., and all community practice locations. He also will lead research operations and oversee management of the physical plant.
Walker joined City of Hope earlier this year as senior vice president in transformation development. He has led the institution’s operational design efforts, as well as the planning for new strategic ventures and initiatives.
He previously served as chief operating officer for The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center and James Cancer Hospital. The new James Cancer Hospital — the third largest cancer hospital in the country — was built and opened during his tenure.
He also served as executive vice president for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, and he held various administrative leadership positions during his 14 years of service at University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.
“Jeff has brought a wealth of cancer center and hospital leadership experience to City of Hope,” Michael A. Caligiuri, MD, president of City of Hope National Medical Center and Deana and Steve Campbell physician-in-chief distinguished chair, said in a press release. “He will help guide City of Hope into the future as our institution continues to deliver best–in-class clinical care and research innovations to all the people we serve.”
Walker serves as vice chair of Alliance of Dedicated Cancer Centers’ executive committee, treasurer of Association of American Cancer Institutes, and member of the executive and finance committees of National Comprehensive Cancer Network and Cancer Center Administrators Forum.
