Two nationally recognized radiation oncologists have joined the department of radiation oncology at NYU Langone Health’s Perlmutter Cancer Center.

Andrew J. Evans, MD, has been named vice chair for clinical operations and medical director.

Evans — who joined NYU Langone in June — most recently served as attending physician and director of thoracic radiation oncology at Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine. He also served as director of radiation oncology at Mount Sinai West.

His research focuses on thoracic and genitourinary malignancies, gynecologic cancers and pediatric neuro-oncology.

“I’m very excited to join an institution like NYU Langone that embraces such a strong patient-centered model of treatment while emphasizing the importance of clinical trials and translational research” Evans said in a press release.

E rik P. Sulman, MD, will serve as vice chair for research.

Sulman, who will join the department Sept. 15, also will serve as codirector of the Brain Tumor Center at Perlmutter Cancer Center.

He will join NYU Langone from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he is a tenured associate professor of radiation oncology, translational molecular pathology and genomic medicine, as well as section chief of central nervous system and pediatric radiation oncology.

“Interacting with patients is a special part of my job, so to join an institution like Perlmutter Cancer Center that not only places unmatched value on comprehensive patient care, but also supports collaborative and translational research, is particularly exciting,” Sulman said in the release.
