HemOnc Today received a Gold Award for best legislative/government article in the American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors (ASHPE) Awards Competition.

The award recognized HemOnc Today’s July 2017 cover story titled “FDA’s ‘breakneck pace’ accelerates drug access, but concerns persist about lack of complete data.”

The story provided in-depth analysis of FDA’s accelerated drug approval pathway.

HemOnc Today staff spoke with oncologists and policymakers about the advantages and drawbacks of accelerated approvals; the fact many drugs that received accelerated approval based on surrogate endpoints ultimately failed to show a survival benefit; and the impact that delays in postmarketing studies can have on patients and providers.

ASHPE recognizes outstanding editorial and design excellence and achievement in health care publications. The annual competition provides an opportunity for editors to measure their efforts and publications against the best the health care sector has to offer.

Several other publications affiliated with HemOnc Today and its online platform, Healio.com, received awards in the ASHPE competition.

Endocrine Today won a Silver Award for best single news article. The award was for a November 2017 article titled “As obesity rate rises, ‘double diabetes’ looms large,” written by Regina Schaffer.

Healio Gastroenterology won a Silver Award for best profile. The award was for a January 2017 article titled “Onsite with OpenBiome” written by Katrina Altersitz and Adam Leitenberger.

Infectious Disease News won a Silver Award for best feature article. The award recognized a June 2017 article titled “CDC’s EIS program molds clinicians into public health professionals,” written by Gerard Gallagher.

Infectious Disease News received a Bronze Award for best feature article series for Infectious Disease News 30th Anniversary,” published from January 2017 through December 2017.

Orthopedics Today won a Bronze Award for best single news article. The award recognized an October 2017 article titled “Changed setting for joint reconstruction surgery possible in 2018,” written by Casey Tingle.

Primary Care Optometry News received a Bronze Award for best regular department. The award recognized “PCON Reports,” written by Abigail Sutton and published in the August, September and October 2017 issues.

“Our staff’s ongoing efforts have earned these exceptional honors and I am ecstatic that their hard work is recognized,” said Joan-Marie Stiglich, Chief Content Editor of Healio. “Earning these awards is a demonstration of our dedication to provide physicians with timely, relevant news and information.”
