Paul F. Engstrom, MD, FACP, will receive the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s Laurels Award for Lifetime Achievement in Cancer Prevention.

The nonprofit foundation established the award in 2003 to recognize individuals who made a significant and lasting impact in the field of cancer prevention, with an emphasis on screening and early detection.

Engstrom is Samuel M.V. Hamilton chair in cancer prevention and special adviser to the president at Fox Chase Cancer Center. He has been at Fox Chase for more than 45 years.

While there in 1979, he established the first cancer prevention and control program at an NCI-designated cancer center.

He has served as principal investigator for several cancer prevention and screening research programs. He also is a founding member of National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s Patient Guideline Committee.

“Dr. Engstrom is a true leader in cancer prevention, here at Fox Chase and around the world,” Richard I. Fisher, president and CEO at Fox Chase Cancer Center, said in a press release. “We congratulate him on receiving this lifetime achievement award and look forward to all that he will continue to accomplish.”
