NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center appoints breast surgery chief

Roshni Rao, MD, FACS, has been appointed chief of the breast surgery program at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.

Rao also will serve as associate professor of surgery.

She most recently served as director of George N. Peters Center for Breast Surgery at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She also served as the hospital’s chief of staff from 2013 to 2015.

Rao’s clinical interests include early-stage breast cancer, ethnic disparities in breast cancer, patient engagement with health care technology, innovative localization techniques and tumescent mastectomy.

Her published research includes studies that assessed the effect of exercise interventions during neoadjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer, as well as the effect of mitochondrial DNA on the risk for triple-negative breast cancer.
