Karmanos Cancer Institute president elected to Association of American Cancer Institutes board

Gerold Bepler, MD, PhD, has been elected to the Association of American Cancer Institutes’ board of directors.
Bepler, president and CEO of Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, will serve a 3-year term.
“I am honored and pleased to be elected to the AACI Board of Directors that represents elite cancer centers across the country,” Bepler, also chair of the department of oncology at Wayne State University School of Medicine, said in a press release. “I look forward to collaborating with fellow board members to help cancer experts advance this nation’s cancer care.”
Bepler is a thoracic oncologist whose research has explored lung cancer risks, progression, treatments and outcomes. He has focused on non-small cell lung cancer.
The Association of American Cancer Institutes comprises 97 NCI-designated centers and academic-based research programs that receive NCI support.
The association strives to reduce the burden of cancer by enhancing the impact of leading cancer research centers through sharing best practices, providing a forum for members to address common challenges, and supporting initiatives that engage membership in developing specific recommendations.
