Prashant Sinha, MD, has been appointed chief of surgery at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn.
Sinha — an associate professor in the department of surgery at NYU School of Medicine — joined the NYU Langone staff in 2009.
In his new position, he will strengthen the hospital’s surgical staff by developing new programs and increasing ambulatory services. He also will manage the hospital’s surgical residency training.
“We had to look no further than our own faculty to find the right person to lead our surgical team in Brooklyn,” H. Leon Pachter, MD, FACS, chair of the department of surgery for NYU Langone Health, said in a press release. “Under Dr. Sinha’s stewardship, we will continually upgrade, expand and integrate surgical services at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn to achieve the same level of excellence throughout our health care network.”
Sinha specializes in minimally invasive surgery and advanced laparoscopy to treat diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, including colon cancer.
“I know firsthand how important it is to work together with other medical disciplines,” Sinha said in the release. “For a patient to have a successful surgical outcome, their other health issues need to be addressed.
“We will reach out to practitioners in the hospital and in the community to help build trust, improve safety standards and advance patient satisfaction,” Sinha added. “The patient remains our top priority.”
As a leader in quality improvement initiatives for the hospital, Sinha built a comprehensive database designed to capture quality trends and adverse events.
“Safety is our No. 1 priority,” Sinha said. “The database that we created is an important teaching tool from which we gain valuable insight into best practices for managing complications to achieve better outcomes for our patients.”
