ASH selected 12 fellows to receive awards designed to encourage careers in academic hematology by providing protected research time during training.

ASH Research Training Award for Fellows recipients will get $70,000 to support a research project between during the 1-year program period. Most of the money will support recipients’ salaries, but part cover research supplies and travel to scientific meetings.

“It’s often difficult to find sufficient time to conduct high-quality research during training,” ASH President Kenneth C. Anderson, MD, of Lebow Institute for Myeloma Therapeutics and Jerome Lipper Myeloma Center at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, said in a society-issued press release. “By supporting protected time for scientific exploration for these talented fellows, ASH is giving them the opportunity to conduct quality research, which will lead to academic appointments and future research funding.”
