Fox Chase Cancer Center announced two appointments within its department of anesthesiology.

Valerie Elizabeth Armstead, MD, has joined the department as a professor.

She previously served as staff anesthesiologist at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey, and as a professor on the faculty of Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.

She completed her residency in anesthesiology at Barnes & Affiliated Hospitals of Washington University in St. Louis. She did fellowships in pediatric anesthesiology and critical care at University of Washington Children’s Medical Center, and in pediatric cardiothoracic anesthesiology at Texas Children’s Hospital of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

“We are very lucky to have Dr. Armstead joining the team,” Kristin K.G. Krauss, MD, chief of anesthesia at Fox Chase, said at Fox Chase. “She brings a strong, diverse academic background to the department. Dr. Armstead’s clinical expertise in regional anesthesia is most providential as we initiate evidence-based care pathways designed to improve outcomes after surgery.”

Felipe Suero, MD, has joined the department as an attending anesthesiologist.

Suero spent the past 10 years as attending anesthesiologist for cardiac and general surgeries at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital.

Suero worked as a general practitioner in the Spanish Navy, as well as at a walk-in clinic in Madrid. He also served as a thoracic surgeon in Hospital of Navarra and Hospitals of Granada.

“We’re very excited to have Felipe join our team,” Krauss said in the release. “He is an experienced anesthesiologist, bringing many years of experience to our patients. As our group looks to expand our perioperative care, I am confident he will add a great deal to the center.”
