William T. DeRosa, DO, FACP, has been named chief of oncology services at Summit Medical Group MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Rosa will remain in clinical practice part time and also will serve on the Summit Medical Group Clinical Council.

His responsibilities will include ensuring improvement in patient care and safety, overseeing business operations and regulatory compliance, and achieving positive clinical outcomes and implementation of value-based care.

DeRosa also will oversee the hiring and mentoring of physicians in the oncology service, as well as guide research teams to expand patient access to clinical trials.

“Dr. DeRosa’s experience and expertise in the field of medical oncology/hematology, as well as his commitment to compassionate care, is exactly in line with our patient-first philosophy,” Jeffrey Le Benger, MD, chairman and CEO of Summit Medical Group, said in a press release. “I’m confident that Dr. DeRosa is the right candidate to carry out our mission to bring a multidisciplinary approach to treating cancer patients.”

DeRosa attended Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri, completed his residency at Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey, and was fellowship trained in hematology and oncology at Yale University School of Medicine. He is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology/hematology.

“To be the first named oncology chief at Summit Medical Group is a great responsibility, and I am honored to take on this crucial role,” DeRosa said in a press release. “I look forward to working with the expert physicians and extremely talented professionals at Summit Medical Group MD Anderson Cancer Center as we strive to transform how healthcare and cancer treatment is delivered to our patients.”
