Robert A. Figlin, MD, has been named deputy director of the integrated oncology service line at Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute at Cedars-Sinai.

Figlin — who previously served as director of the hematology–oncology division at the institute — will work with investigators and clinicians to unify the health system’s approach to treating cancer by integrating research and clinical strategies.

“Dr. Figlin was tailor-made to do this,” Steven Piantadosi, MD, PhD, director of Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute and professor of medicine at Cedars-Sinai, said in a press release. “He’s an experienced leader who knows cancer care in the Cedars-Sinai system, throughout Los Angeles and beyond.”

Figlin, a kidney cancer specialist, joined Cedars-Sinai 6 years ago.

“This position presents an opportunity to improve cancer care for our patients,” Figlin said in the release. “Contributing to cancer science allows me to wake up each day and feel as though I’m making an important difference.”
