Roswell Park Cancer Institute names senior vice president of nursing
Shirley A. Johnson, RN, MS, MBA, has been named senior vice president of nursing and patient care services at Roswell Park Cancer Center.
Johnson — who also will serve as chief nursing officer — has four decades of service as a registered nurse, as well as nearly 25 years of experience in oncology nursing and nursing administration. She will join the Roswell Park on Oct. 31.

Johnson most recently served as senior vice president and chief nursing and patient care services officer at City of Hope. While there, she managed a team of more than 1,200 care providers in nursing, cardiology, pulmonology, inpatient care, perioperative surgery and other areas. She also spent 10 years as executive director of Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
She is a two-time past president of the Association of Cancer Executives.

“As chief nursing officer, Shirley will be a critical member of our senior leadership team whose voice and vision will help to shape every element of Roswell Park’s patient services, from prevention through screening, treatment and survivor support,” Candace S. Johnson, PhD, Roswell Park Cancer Institute’s president and CEO, said in a press release. “While I’m impressed by her accomplishments as a nursing leader and program administrator, what I most appreciate is the breadth of her contributions across every key area of oncology practice today — patient-centered care, process optimization, quality assessment, strategic planning, education and research.”
