Henry Ford Health System program director named Komen Scholar
Lisa A. Newman, MD, MPH, director of the breast cancer program at Henry Ford Health System, has been selected to serve as a Komen Scholar for a 3-year term.
Komen Scholars — an international advisory group established in 2010 — consists of 60 distinguished leaders in breast cancer research and advocacy who have made significant contributions to the field. The group is led by Susan G. Komen’s Chief Scientific Advisors and Scientific Advisory Board.

Lisa A. Newman
Newman, director of Henry Ford’s breast cancer global health research program and founding medical director of the International Center for the Study of Breast Cancer Subtypes, will provide expertise in connection with the organization’s research and scientific programs, as well as other mission programs related to education, advocacy and community health.
The organization selected Newman for her “record of making sustained contributions to breast cancer scientific advances, demonstration of leadership in breast cancer research and in the research community, a personal commitment to conquering breast cancer, and the ability to serve as an ambassador of Susan G. Komen to external audiences,” according to a press release.
Newman also serves as adjunct professor of surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and of health management policy at University of Michigan School of Public Health.
