NEW ORLEANS — Multivitamin supplement use appeared associated with a reduced risk for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy among patients with breast cancer, according to study results Gary Zirpoli, PhD, research fellow at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, presented at the American Association for Cancer Research Annual Meeting.

The effect appeared strongest among those who used multivitamin supplements prior to diagnosis, Zirpoli said.

“While this is promising, it is important for other studies to replicate these results before recommendations can be given,” Zirpoli told HemOnc Today. “We recommend that patients discuss their supplement use, or supplements they are considering using, with their physicians.”
