Pierre M. Désy, MPH, CAE, has been appointed CEO of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology and the society’s Foundation for Women’s Cancer.

The appointment will take effect April 25.

As CEO, Désy will be the chief staff executive responsible for management of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO), the foundation and its staff. He will provide strategic leadership and have fiscal, program and administration responsibility.

“I am honored to be the next CEO for the Society of Gynecologic Oncology and the Foundation for Women’s Cancer,” Désy said in a press release. “I look forward to working with the society’s and the foundation’s boards of directors, executive committee, staff, members and stakeholders to advance the organizations’ missions.”

Désy has more than 15 years of senior executive experience in the field of association management. For the past 2 years, he served as executive director of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Prior to that, he served as chief development officer at the Emergency Nurses Association.

“Pierre understands the health care environment and has a remarkable record of achievement in virtually every aspect of society leadership,” society president Robert L. Coleman, MD, said in a press release. “His success particularly in the fundraising arena will be a boon to our development initiatives.”

Désy will replace Mary C. Eiken, MS, RN, who has served as SGO’s executive director for more than a decade.

“Pierre is following in the footsteps of a powerful and dynamic leader in Mary,” SGO president-elect Jeffrey M. Fowler, MD, said in the press release. “He obviously has big shoes to fill, but we could not have found a better person to meet the challenge.”
