The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation selected Timothy J. Ley, MD, to receive its David T. Workman Memorial Award.

The award, presented every other year, recognizes scientists who develop novel therapies for poorly treatable cancer types

The foundation an international organization dedicated to curing and preventing cancer chose to honor Ley because of his leadership in developing genome sequencing as a platform to identify new molecular targets for the clinical development of more selective, noncytotoxic treatments for acute myeloid leukemia.

Ley is professor of medicine and genetics within the division of oncology at Washington University Medical School. He is past president of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and a member of the National Cancer Advisory Board.
