Winship Cancer Institute appoints deputy director

Suresh S. Ramalingam, MD, has been named deputy director of Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
In this role, he will oversee the integration of research, clinical and educational components within the institute.

“Dr. Ramalingam is an extraordinary leader and will advance Winship’s efforts to lessen the burden of cancer through greater integration of research with the care of our patients,” Walter J. Curran, Jr., MD, executive director of Winship, said in a press release.
Ramalingam, known for his expertise in the study and treatment of lung cancer, also will serve as assistant dean for cancer research at Emory School of Medicine.
“We are very fortunate to have Dr. Ramalingam serve in these pivotal leadership roles at Winship and the school of medicine,” Christian P. Larsen, MD, DPhil, dean of Emory University School of Medicine and CEO of The Emory Clinic, said in a press release. “His range of experiences and breadth of understanding of the cancer research landscape are exceptional, spanning target and drug discovery, exciting new developments in immunotherapy and value-oriented health services research.”
Ramalingam joined Winship and Emory School of Medicine in 2007. He most recently served as professor in the department of hematology and medical oncology, as well as Winship’s director of medical oncology and its lung cancer program. He also co-leads Winship’s discovery and developmental therapeutics program.
