Roman Perez-Soler, MD, chairman and chief of the department of oncology at Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care, has been named to NCI’s board of scientific counselors for clinical sciences and epidemiology.

He will serve through July 31, 2020.

Perez-Soler also is chief of the division of medical oncology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and deputy director of Albert Einstein Cancer Center.

The NCI’s board of scientific counselors consists of cancer scientists who provide advice to NCI leadership on all aspects of the institute’s research programs.

“This appointment is in recognition of Dr. Perez-Soler’s leadership and notable, innovative laboratory and clinical research contributions on the prevention and treatment of lung cancer,” I. David Goldman, MD, director of Albert Einstein Cancer Center, said in a press release. “Also of note are his many years of service to NCI as a member of grant review committees and as a recipient of peer-reviewed grants from this organization.”

Perez-Soler, a thoracic oncologist dedicated to the development of innovative therapies for lung cancer, helped pioneer the development of treatment modalities for several cancer types, including the use of liposomes for the delivery and tumor-targeting of anticancer agents.
