Lisa A. Newman, MD, MPH, has been named director of the breast cancer program at Henry Ford Health System.

Newman will lead the system’s new international breast cancer research center. She also will serve as adjunct professor of surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and adjunct professor of health management policy at University of Michigan School of Public Health.

Newman previously served as professor of surgery and director of the breast care center at University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center. Her research focus includes efforts to advance knowledge regarding the biologic and genetic origins of triple-negative breast cancer.

Newman will bring three colleagues with her to Henry Ford Health System:

  • Jessica Bensenhaver, MD, a breast cancer surgeon who specializes in benign and malignant breast diseases.
  • Dunya Attisha, MD, a microvascular plastic and reconstructive surgeon with a special interest in restorative breast surgery.
  • Monique Swain, MD, an obstetrics and gynecology surgeon who specializes in women at high risk for breast cancer due to abnormal genetics, including BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations.
