SAN ANTONIO — The American Association for Cancer Research recognized Anne-Lise Børresen-Dale, DSc, with its eighth annual Distinguished Lectureship in Breast Cancer Research.

Børresen-Dale, professor at University of Oslo and head of the department of genetics at University Hospital Radiumhospitalet in Norway, presented a lecture titled “Molecular evolution under neoadjuvant chemotherapy” on Dec. 10 as part of San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium.

The lectureship recognizes outstanding science that inspired or has the potential to inspire new perspectives on the etiology, diagnosis, treatment or prevention of breast cancer.

Børresen-Dale is a leading geneticist in research on molecular biology of breast cancer. Her group was among the pioneers in expression profiling of breast carcinomas, helping establish that breast cancer can be classified as several distinct subgroups based on differences in molecular profiles.

Her current research focuses on using high-dimensional data in integrated approaches to explore the systems biology of breast cancer. The investigations are designed to determine which gene expression profiles and genotypes contribute to increased cancer risk, tumor aggressiveness, therapy resistance and radiation sensitivity.

Børresen-Dale is past president of the European Association for Cancer Research and is an elected member of the European Academy of Cancer Sciences and the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
