American College of Radiation Oncology elects president

James Welsh, MD, MS, radiation oncologist at Loyola University Medical Center, has been elected president of the American College of Radiation Oncology.
Welsh, installed as president during the organization’s annual meeting in Washington, will serve a 2-year term as president. In 2017, Welsh will transition to chairman of the board.
Welsh is a professor, medical director, and director of clinical and translational research in the department of radiation oncology at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He also is chief of radiation oncology at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital.
The American College of Radiation Oncology focuses on ensuring the highest quality of care for radiation therapy patients and promoting success in the practice of radiation oncology through education, responsible socioeconomic advocacy, and integration of science and technology into clinical practice.
Welsh recently concluded an 8-year term as adviser to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Advisory Committee on the Medical Uses of Isotopes. He formerly served as chair of the Radiological Society of North America’s radiation oncology scientific program subcommittee, as well as an alternate councilor in the American College of Radiology. Welsh held or holds several leadership positions within the American Society for Radiation Oncology.
